Description
Position Summary
Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting. Greets and registers patients. Inputs or verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff and the medical staff. Will be able to work without constant oversight and has the ability to multitask in a changing environment subsequent to the number of patients at any one time. Will maintain the mission and core values set forth by Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.
Primary Responsibilities

1. Serves as first contact for visitors and staff, refers all telephone calls and visitors presenting the department in a professional and positive manner.
2. Exercises independent judgment, handling routine matters or making appropriate referrals.
3. Reviews patient's account prior to appointment to ensure forms are current and scanned into EMR; verify patient demographics at each visit; provide appropriate paperwork to new patients; ensures Medicare patient's MSP completed accurately and at each visit.
4. Collect payments and/or forwards appropriately; applies discounts as applicable, refers patients to source group for payment arrangements as needed writes receipts, and posts appropriately; completes day end procedures within approved time frames.
5. Creates claims accurately and timely; knowledgeable of coding and medical terminology; completes day end procedures within the approved time frames.
6. Contacts patients to confirm appointments 24 hours prior to scheduled appointments; adheres to scheduling template guidelines when scheduling new and return appointments; schedules are kept current.
7. Documents no show, reschedule, and or cancelled appointments; creates telephone encounters as needed or directing calls to the appropriate staff for triage.
8. Fax in-box is kept current; all documents are linked to patients accounts daily; test results are attached to the correct patient and order daily; releases medical records appropriately per policy; organizes all paperwork, filing and routing as appropriate; ensures legible and complete.
9. Participates in performance improvement activities.
10. Participates in emergency and disaster situations.
11. Attends staff meetings as required.
12. Will float to other clinics as necessary.
13. Maintains inventory and orders clerical supplies as needed.
14. Registers patients into Meditech if send out labs or x-rays/procedures are needed.
15. Receptionist will be cross trained to do Biller/Insurance Verifier's job.
Additional Responsibilities
1. Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist patients/physicians in the care of the patient.
2. Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
3. Retrieves lab results from the reference labs and brings the results to the nurse.
4. Performs all aspects of direct and indirect patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
5. Recognizes personal limitations and seeks guidance as necessary.
6. Correctly performs collecting and labeling lab specimens.
7. Properly performs any patient related duty with expertise and efficiency.

Requirements
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. Two years of experience in a hospital or medical facility preferred.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word preferred.
3. Associate degree preferred.
